    Renske Herder

Renske Herder is an artist and designer, born in Leeuwarden (1986). In her work she is looking for the pure expression of the human spirit and the beauty of simple things. Therefore the use of pencil, pastel and paper are common in her work. Inspiration she finds in textiles, ancient artifacts, folk art and modern abstract art and zero art. She likes to use vintage found material because these old materials tell a story of different times and different people.

'When I was young I wanted to be an archeologist. In my art it is the same curiosity that moves me. I want to know more about the human race, what do we like, what objects did we create, how did we decorate and maybe even why?' The treasure hunt might be a little less profound that in archeology, but to me it's still about finding the right images and the right materials to work with.'

Besides painting Renske likes to create patterns for decorated surfaces, such as textiles and furniture. In 2018 she started her own shop / brand called 'Color Cookie' with handmade products featuring her own patterns.

She has lived all over The Netherlands and in The Dutch Caribbean (Bonaire), but currently lives in the North again, in Harlingen. In 2011 Renske completed a Masters degree in Industrial Design Engineering at the University of Twente.

Artist she admires are for example: Cy Twombly, Henri Matisse, Picasso, Joan Miro and Martin Tissing.
